As you can imagine, still no sign of B— . Of course I have to fear the worst one way or another. Either he's dead, at the Institute, or run out on me. I'm still living in the Eastern Townships with mom, and you know what — I'm never bored. Alex is so entertaining, such a happy, lovely baby, that life is wonderful no matter that I don't have a man to share it with.
Thanks again to all those who have emailed me with encouragement, or even in response to the few of B—'s papers which I have put online. The guy in Florida who is working on putting Scotsmen in space using a lighter-than-air craft was one of the weirder ones.
Alex is just over five months old, and tries so hard to talk and stand, both pretty much approximating an old man who can't handle his liquor. He's strong and healthy, and developing according to schedule in all respects. There's one thing which worries me though. It's hard to be sure, but I swear that a couple of times recently I've entered a room behind him without making a sound and he has turned around to look at me. Some say that a baby can smell its mother's milk when she's nearby, but I'm beginning to wonder if he's not only using touch, taste, hearing, smell and sight...
